Tanzania Red Wine
Tanazania’s Dodoma region produces three wines — dry white, red and sweet. The Dodoma brand is produced by Tanzania Distilleries, which is now part of the SAB Miller family. WT got this bottle as a gift from a friend who was in Zanzibar.
The pleasure of drinking it was done with a local New York mixologist of South Sudan origins. The Dodoma Dry Red is definitely a blend but the grapes were not listed. However WT suspects the blend has a major content of Makutupora, a local dry red grape in the region. WT and the mixologist were in agreement that the wine was a tad too dry (despite being labeled Dry wine). Tannins were soft on the palate and the wine was semi-smooth overall.
It is marketed as being “excellent with grilled meat “Nyama Choma” and matured cheese. Unfortunately WT had neither at hand. However, it was a good enough wine for the bottle to be emptied under an hour between us.
